CSU System Board of Trustees (BOT) Mathematics Proficiency
Requirement
.
By action of the BOT,
students shall be required to successfully complete MAT 098 within their first 24 attempted academic credit hours
(whether taken at Eastern or elsewhere). Students who do not successfully complete MAT
098 within this period shall not be allowed to register for credit
courses at any University within the Connecticut State University

proficiency requirement you will not be allowed to register for additional
courses unless your registration includes MAT 098.
What shoud I do if I fail MAT 098?
If you fail MAT 098 in any given semester you must take the course again the following semester.
What if I need/chose to take a math course elsewhere?
You can take an equivalent math course elsewhere. To do so, you must submit to the registrar’s office at Eastern an Approval to Take Courses Outside of Eastern form. This form and course equivalency information is available at http://nutmeg.easternct.edu/registrar/transfer_course.htm.After successfully completing the course, you must have your transcripts sent immediately to Eastern.
Mathematics Department Class and/or Workshop Attendance Policy
.
For
MAT 098, 101 and 101W, it is the Mathematics Department policy that a
student whose absences exceed 20% of
class meetings for the semester will receive a grade of "F" for the
course. Further details will be found in your
course syllabus.
Mathematics Achievement Center (MAC) Participation Policy
All students enrolled in MAT 098 and 101W are required to participate in the MAC. While in the
MAC, various services are offered to aid students in the successful
completion of their math course. MAC participation will be
counted as 10% of your final course grade. Your grade will be
based on the percentage of the required 18
hours forthe
duration of the semester that you complete. For example, if you complete 16 hours then your MAC participation grade will be = 89%.
We recommend completing the first 9 hours by the close of the MAC on Friday, October 16, 2009 and remaining 9 hours by the closed of the MAC on Friday, December 4, 2009. Again, student hours will only be recorded when the MAC is officially open!
.
TheMAC
also has hardcopies of supplemental materials for Math 098, 101, and
101W. Some of these materials can also be downloaded from the
