FROSH EXCEL FOR MEN'S TRACK

Eastern, competing in its final meet prior to next Saturday's Little East Conference/New England Championships,  placed third in the invitational which was won by host Springfield College. The Pride totaled 204  points, with Trinity College scoring 112 and Eastern 71.
Edwardsen broke 8.0 in the 55 meter hurdles for the first time, clocking a program record 7.91 in the finals after winning his heat in a time of 8.14. Edwarsen's winning time in a field of 13 was .08 faster than the previous Eastern record, set two years ago.

Callahan knocked two seconds off his previous best time in the 400 with a time of 51.62, bettered the standard of qualifying for the New England Division III Championships by .38. Callahn was third in the event in a field of 20, just 1.13 seconds behind the winner.

Other  winners for Eastern were sophomore Nick Pates (East Haven) and freshman Joshua Fitzpatrick (Beacon Falls), as well as the 4x400 meter relay team. The program record-holder in the triple jump, Fitzpatrick won the event with a jump of 42-11 1/2 ; Pates bettered 23 other competitors with a time of 23.28 in the 200 meters; Pates, Callahan, first-year sophomore Casey McGarvey (Bozrah) and junior Mike D'Elia (Windham) paced the relay to a first-place time of 3:31.54.

First-year junior Brian Lowe (Kingston, Jamaica) totaled a team-high 14 points in the meet. He was second in a field of 15 at 55 meters and third among 24 in the 200.
