Eastern Connecticut State University junior Ashlee James (Franklin) (at right) perseveres through the driving rain during the 400 meter hurdles Friday night during the Third Annual Eastern Track & Field Invitational at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.At the non-scoring meet, five Eastern individuals and two relays posted first-place finishes in the meet which included the Connecticut College and Colby-Sawyer College men's and women's teams and the Mount Holyoke College womens team. Eastern's female winners included seniors Monica Mills (East Hartford), Sandra Brautigam (Scotland) and Erika Barber (Portland), sophomore Kristiana Ibsen (Shelton) and freshman Cora Gingras (East Hampton). Mills won the triple jump, Brautigam the 100 hurdles, Barber the pole vault, Ibsen the javelin and Gingras the 400 hurdles. The 4x100 and 4x400 relays also claimed first-place finishes. Mills qualified for the Division III New England Championship in the triple jump with a mark of 34-1 1/2. Individuals recording personal bests were Gingras in the 400 hurdles (she also tied her personal best in the high jump), sophomore Megan Wallace (Trumbull) in the discus, sophomore Maggie Gibeault (Brooklyn) in the pole vault, junior Melissa Healy (Naugatuck) in the 5,000, and senior Sandra Brautigam (Scotland) in the 100 hurdles.
