Huhn wins PV in record-tying fashion; Quinones sets PR at 10,000 meters
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore Amy Huhn (Hebron) tied the Eastern Connecticut State University outdoor pole record -- setting a facility record in winning the event- and senior Amanda Quinones (Trumbull) broke her previous best at 10,000 meters when the Warriors opened their 2012 outdoor season at the Jerry Gravel Classic, hosted by Westfield State University.

Huhn jumped a foot higher than her previous best a year ago, tying the outdoor record of 10-8, set in 2010 by Erika Barber. The mark was also the best ever at the facility.
Quinones, the 2010 Little East Conference and New England Alliance Champion at 10,000 meters, was second in a field of six at 10,000 meters, qualifying for the Division III New England, New England Open and ECAC championships in her first try outdoors. She was timed in 38:53.90 - more than two minutes faster than the Division III New England qualifying standard and 14 seconds better than her previous best.
Eastern finished in ninth place with 34 points in the 14-team field.
Junior Cora Gingras (East Hampton) collected a team-high 14 points while Huhn had ten with her winning effort, and Quinones eight, Gingras competed in four events. She was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.68) and fourth in the triple jump (34-6 ¾), fifth in the high jump (4-11) and 15th in the long jump (13-9 ½). She qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the high jump and triple jump, establishing a personal best in the latter event.
Eastern participates in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
