Sophomore tops field in high jump for third time outdoors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore Lauren Hultzman (Putnam) won the high jump for the third time during the outdoor season and sophomore Amy Huhn (Hebron) was second in the pole vault when the Eastern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team finished fifth at the Springfield College Invitational at the Blake Track Saturday.

Eastern totaled 52 points in the nine-team meet, two better than Keene State College. The top four teams separated themselves from the rest of the field. Champion Springfield had 178 points, Division II American International College 147, Westfield State University 134.5 and Division II College of Saint Rose 102.
Hultzman out-jumped a field of seven with a mark of 5-3 in the high jump, while Huhn went over the bar at 9-8 in the pole vault in a field of seven competitors. Sophomore Alexa Palasky (Griswold) outran the other competitor -- classmate Wendy Bouton (Stratford) -- to win at 10,000 meters in a time of 43:21.00 and pick up ten points. Bouton totaled eight.
Other point producers included sophomore Tacia Bryant (Guilford), who was fourth in a field of 17 at 200 meters, junior Christine Charpentier (Monroe), who was sixth among 17 in the 200 and eighth among 13 in the 400; senior Amanda Quinones (Trumbull), who was eighth among 23 performers in the 800, and the 4x10 relay, which was fifth among six. Runners in the relay were Bryant, Charpentier, Hultzman and Huhn.
Eastern competes in the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championships Saturday at Westfield State University at 11:30 a.m.
