WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Tuesday night against UMass Dartmouth, the Warriors head into their second conference game over this year's winter intersession following win Plymouth State University Saturday.
Tuesday at noon -- Eastern Athletics Weekly with head coach Denise Bierly and Shannon McCourt. www.littleeast.tv.
The Corsairs are a very talented team this season judging by their record. UMass Dartmouth is 10-1, 3-0 conference on the season, which looks as if it will be their best season in years. UMass has had three straight losing seasons, its worst in the 08-09 campaign where they went 3-23.
Eastern comes into the game 3-9 overall, 1-2 conference.
This game has two different storylines as the Warriors look to improve with a young inexperienced team, and the Corsairs look to stay hot as they're looking for a regular season conference title. They are led by 6-1 senior forward Colleen Moriarty who is averaging an outstanding 17.5 points a game, which puts her on top in the LEC for scoring. With her strong post game, Moriarty is sure to have a big game in this one. She is shooting just over 50% from the field on the season, not to mention all her points come inside the paint as she has not taken a three all season. Does this sound familiar?
Well if you're on the Eastern side, Shannon McCourt is the same player. McCourt, last week's LEC Player-of-the-Week, is shooting 45 percent from the field without taking a three as all of her buckets come from inside in the three point line and down in the paint. Moriarty has a height advantage over McCourt, but it should still be an interesting matchup. The Corsairs may have only one loss, but I see Eastern making this a very competitive and close game.
Key for Eastern - Share the ball and find multiple options for scoring. If Eastern is able to distribute the ball to more than two or three players, it will have a balanced day scoring which could lead to a close game or possibly even a win over the best team in the conference.
