M-Basketball: Eastern Pounds Corsairs

Robitaille has 25 points and ten rebounds in 91-63 LEC victory over UMD

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Senior forward Chris Robitaille (Canton) had a career-high 25 points and recorded his fourth double-double of the year with ten rebounds as the Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball team routed the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 91-63, Tuesday night in a Little East Conference game at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

A winner of three of its last four, Eastern (9-5, 3-1 Little East) downed UMass Dartmouth (2-10, 0-4 Little East) for the seventh straight time.

Junior guard Brian Salzillo (North Haven), ranked fourth nationally in three-point field goals made per game (just under four), connected on six three-pointers (on nine tries) - his fourth game of six or more this year -- for the Warriors, who canned 7-of-15 from long range. As a team, the Warriors rank seventh nationally in three-point field goal percentage.

Salzillo, who has at least one three-pointer in his last 19 straight games, finished with 20 points and junior forward  Mike Garrow (Terrvylle) had 11 points.

Robitaille helped Eastern to a 55.9 shooting percentage by converting ten of 14 attempts from the floor.

Freshmen Kevin Luemene (Stamford) and Michael-Thomas Sciro (Westerly, RI) recorded their first collegiate points with four and three points, respectively.

With the win, Eastern moves into a four-way tie for first place in the conference.

Last year' conference regular-season and tournament champion, Eastern visits Massachusetts Boston Saturday at 3 p.m. in a conference game.
