DeChent upped her career totals to 65 goals and 34 assists by scoring her 14th, 15th and 16th goals of 2013 in a span of ten minutes in the first half, then was credited with an assist on teammate Rylee McGuire's tenth goal of the season with four minutes left in the match.
DeChent, who played her freshman season at Southern Connecticut State University, took 12 of Manhattanville's (5-2) 18 shots. McGuire connected on her only recorded shot of the game, but also assisted on DeChent's third goal of the first half.
Sophomore midfielder Laura Chicorka ( Enfield) recorded five of the team's 14 shots for Eastern (3-3), which forced goalie Amy Hilton to come up with ten saves to preserve her first shutout of the season, which was her team's third in its last four matches.
Junior goalie Olivia Mullen (Bethel) made six saves and surrendered only one goal in the second half in relief of freshman starter Samantha Scavo (Redding).
The shutout was the first of the season for Eastern, which has dropped its last two on the road since winning three in a row. The Valiants have won six straight against the Warriors in this series.
Eastern opens its Little East Conference season Saturday, hosting the University of Southern Maine at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.
