Eastern men's soccer players are honored in weekly awards program
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior back Carl Stensland (Storrs) and freshman midfielder Nicholas Warren (Southbury) of the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team have been recognized with weekly honors by the Little East Conference for the week ending Sept. 22.
Stensland, a third-year transfer from the Division I level, was honored for the first time in his Eastern career with a weekly award when he was selected Defensive Player-of-the-Week, while Warren was named Rookie-of-the-Week for the second time in three weeks.

A 2013 team captain, Stensland played every minute at center back last week when the Warriors did not allow either opponent to put a shot on net in a 6-0 non-conference road win over Mitchell College and in a 1-0 overtime home victory over Western Connecticut State University in a conference-opening match.
A two-year starter at midfield and a 2013 second-team All-LEC selection for the two-time defending conference champions, Stensland recently moved to the defensive backfield following injuries to two defensive starters. In two shutout wins - including one in overtime against Western Connecticut in the conference opener for both teams - Eastern outshot its opponent 49-6.
The defense allowed freshman keeper Greg Walton to post shutouts without making a save. Since surrendering six goals in its first two contests this season against out-of-region opponents, the Warriors have held four opponents to a total of one goal.Ranked No. 10 in New England, Eastern has shut out its three New England foes this season, and Stensland has played every minute this season.
A starting midfielder, Warren has scored two goals this season and both have been game-winners and the only goals of the match. After his goal on his first career shot in the final two minutes in the team's home opener against Bridgewater State University two weeks ago, Warren ended the match Saturday 40 seconds into overtime in the conference-opening victory over visiting Western Connecticut State University.
Now 4-1-1 with a five-game unbeaten streak, Eastern looks for its fourth home win without a loss when it hosts Salem State University Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Thomas Nevers Field.
