The Music Program at Eastern provides theoretical and experiential opportunities which emphasize the history, theory, performance and criticism of music and musicians from both Western and non-Western traditions.  Music classes allow students to learn critical and analytical thinking, written and verbal communication skills, as well as creative expression.  In addition, students engage in advanced training through practica, independent studies, internships, a senior capstone course, and study tours. 

The Music Program presents a full season of concerts, solo and ensemble recitals, and is often host to guest artists and ensembles, all of which expose our students and audience members to the diversity of styles, eras, and practices of a global society.  A strength of the program is that core courses in music performance, music theory and music history are conducted in ways which make connections with other areas of the arts, culture, and society.  The breadth of knowledge which comes from a broad, liberal arts focus in music studies has been recognized as a powerful tool in being prepared for the challenges that are inevitable in a rapidly changing world.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University, is an institution with a student/teacher ratio of 16:1.   As an integral part of the liberal arts mission of the University, music is an excellent vehicle in which to learn critical and analytical thinking, written and verbal communication skills, and creative expression.  Students who study music at Eastern have the opportunity to:
