Acid Rain Program
The overall goal of the Acid Rain Program is to achieve significant environmental and public health benefits through reductions in emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO 2) and nitrogen oxides (NO x), the primary causes of acid rain. To achieve this goal at the lowest cost to society, the program employs both traditional and innovative, market-based approaches for controlling air pollution. In addition, the program encourages energy efficiency and pollution prevention.
Air and Radiation
Air pollution, clean air, and air quality information is provided by the U.S. EPA's Office of Air and Radiation (OAR). OAR develops national programs, technical policies, and regulations for controlling air pollution and radiation exposure. OAR is concerned with pollution prevention, indoor and outdoor air quality, industrial air pollution, pollution from vehicles and engines, radon, acid rain, stratospheric ozone depletion, and radiation protection.

American Heritage Rivers Initiative
The American Heritage Rivers initiative is an innovative response to help river communities that seek federal assistance and other resources to meet some tough challenges. Without any new regulations on private property owners, state, local and tribal governments, the American Heritage Rivers initiative is about making more efficient and effective use of existing federal resources, cutting red-tape, and lending a helping hand.
Asbestos Program
The EPA provides various paths for the public to access information about asbestos. On this website, you may access general information about asbestos and its health effects. EPA has also developed a list of commonly used Asbestos acronyms. You may also read about what to do if you suspect asbestos in your home. If you wish to obtain more information on asbestos, EPA maintains a listing of asbestos information resources available to the public. If you would like to locate an asbestos contact, EPA maintains a listing of state and federal asbestos contacts. If you would like to learn more about the laws and regulations that govern asbestos, EPA maintains a listing of the laws and regulations applicable to asbestos.

Clean Lakes Program
Comprising 39.9 million acres, lakes and reservoirs are a major water resource in this country. Freshwater inland lakes and reservoirs provide our nation with 70% of its drinking water and supply water for industry, irrigation, and hydropower. Lake ecosystems support complex and important food web interactions and provide habitat needed to support numerous threatened and endangered species. Lakes are also the cornerstone of our nation's 19 billion dollar freshwater fishing industry, form the backbone of numerous State tourism industries, and provide countless recreational opportunities
Climate Leaders Partnership
Climate Leaders is a new voluntary EPA industry-government partnership that encourages companies to develop long-term comprehensive climate change strategies. Many corporations are already making great strides in reducing their greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions through participation in EPA programs like ENERGY STAR ®, WasteWise and the Green Power Partnership. Climate Leaders gives these companies, and others, the opportunity to take their climate commitment one step further. Partners set a corporate-wide GHG reduction goal and inventory their emissions to measure progress. By reporting inventory data to EPA, partners create a lasting record of their accomplishments. Partners also identify themselves as corporate environmental leaders and strategically position themselves as climate change policy continues to unfold.
Climate Protection
Works with businesses, organizations, governments, and consumers to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change by promoting greater use of energy efficient and other cost-effective technologies. We also work to improve understanding of the more potent greenhouse gases and options for sequestering carbon dioxide.
Coastal and Ocean Programs

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP)
The Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP) is a research program to develop the tools necessary to monitor and assess the status and trends of national ecological resources. EMAP's goal is to develop the scientific understanding for translating environmental monitoring data from multiple spatial and temporal scales into assessments of current ecological condition and forecasts of future risks to our natural resources.
Environmental Technology Verification (ETV)
EPA's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program develops testing protocols and verifies the performance of innovative technologies to problems that threaten human health or the environment. ETV was created to accelerate the entrance of new environmental technologies into the domestic and international marketplace.

Facility Identification Initiative
The Facility Registry System (FRS) is a centrally managed database that identifies facilities, sites or places subject to environmental regulations or of environmental interest. FRS creates high-quality, accurate, and authoritative facility identification records through rigorous verification and management procedures that incorporate information from program national systems, state master facility records, data collected from EPA's Central Data Exchange registrations and data management personnel. The FRS provides Internet access to a single integrated source of comprehensive (air, water, and waste) environmental information about facilities, sites or places.
